Chicago White Sox probable Friday starter Gavin Floyd won the finale of Chicago’s last series against Cleveland by allowing one run through seven innings May 19. Following that victory, Floyd went 1-6 with a 5.44 ERA in eight starts and one relief appearance before bouncing back last Friday against Detroit, giving up two runs - one earned - in 7 2-3 innings of an 8-2 win. White Sox remains in contention in part due to having won four of five meetings this season with Cleveland. They haven’t played like contenders of late, though they’re in the thick of the race in a weak AL Central.
Cleveland Indians, beginning a nine-game homestand, have lost four of six including Wednesday’s 7-5 defeat in Minnesota, but manager Manny Acta isn’t panicking. Cleveland Indians learned Thursday that center fielder Grady Sizemore, who was already on the disabled list with a knee injury, will miss four to six weeks following surgery to correct a sports hernia.
